I’m thrilled to announce our investment in Apollo Atomics, a US nuclear technology company building compact nuclear reactors that are factory-built, delivered by truck, and deployable in under 24 months.
The Round
Apollo raised a $31M seed includes a $26M equity round led by FCVC, with participation from Y Combinator, Telesoft Partners, Alumni Ventures, Robinhood Ventures, Nucleation Capital, Pelion Venture Partners and Duke Capital Partners, alongside angel investors including Paul Graham, Ray Rothrock, Evan Meagher, Matteo Franceschetti and Starcloud CEO Philip Johnston.
Why it matters
Nuclear is the most reliable and clean energy source, yet conventional plants are assembled on site over many years proving slow to build and hard to finance, just as demand for firm clean power, driven by AI and data centers, is surging.
Apollo’s approach is designed to overcome these constraints while retaining proven nuclear technologies. Apollo keeps everything that already works in a nuclear power plant, light-water cooling, standard commercial fuel and changes a single component: the steam generator. Its proprietary compact steam supply system delivers roughly an order of magnitude higher power density than conventional designs. Because the plant’s most complex component shrinks, the whole machine can be factory-built, pre-tested, transported by truck and deployed in less than 24 months, across three product lines: the A-10 (10 MW), A-50 (50 MW) and A-300 (300 MW).
Traction
- Built and operates a demonstrator at MIT’s Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering
- Submitted its regulatory engagement plan to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2026
- Targeting NRC authorization for commercial use of its fuel configuration by the end of the year

Apollo is led by Assil Halimi, an MIT Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and an expert in reactor operations, and Drew Walker, a hard-tech founder and former White House director, combining deep nuclear expertise with experience in technology and public policy.
